If you feel you are up for a 5k run (3.1 miles), you have a great opportunity on Saturday, June 13 by running the Bob Goldman Scholastic Challenge. It is a very nice route based out of Center Park on the shores of Lake Springfield. The best part of the race is that it benefits the running programs of our area's high schools. Thousands of dollars have been donated to local programs due to this great race.
If you are up for a 5k, join your fellow SRRC members for the Scholastic Challenge. You can still register online at https://secure.getmeregistered.com/get_information.php?event_id=2509 or you can register at packet pickup on Friday, June 12th from 3-6 pm at the Springfield Running Center (you can also shop while you register/pick up your packet) or 6-7 am on Saturday at the Beach House at Center Park.
Bring your family and your camera as there is also a free 100 yard dash for ages 5 and under and a free quarter mile run for ages 6-10. All children receive a finishers ribbon.
Entry fee:
$18.00 per person
$1.00 discount for SRRC members and students
$20.00 per person on race day (no discounts)

Hey all,
Does any of the race money for Abe's transfer to a charity? Just had a question regarding this one.
Thanks!
Bill,
I am unsure about this question. I do know that one year, the club made a donation to the Veteran Memorial in the cemetary and I believe, the club also gave to Lincoln Park one year. Will forward your question to Linda and Barb.
Bill,
The last few years, the club (Abe's Army/Abe's Amble) has made a donation to an organization. Seems to be a different charity each year.
A few past organizations:
-Girls on the Run
-Lincoln Park Lagoon Restoration
-Vietnam Veteran Memorial in Oak Ridge Cemetery
Nothing specified at the moment for 2009.
Thanks, Holly I had a question with regard to this.
Bill,
Here is a response from Linda.
We also open up the Army to solicitation by the American Red Cross to “Run Red” during the Abe’s Amble. Runners who participate get pledges for their Abe’s Amble run and make donations to the American Red Cross for local disaster relief. This year will be our fourth year of supporting this initiative.
Linda
Great, thanks!
