I wanted to know how far did we run yesterday. I was told it was a mile and a half. Thanks!

Lincoln park did 1.6 miles.

Can you clarify how the pace groups work? We think we might have to switch to a faster paced group.

I was running behind someone with a fancy runner's watch. She said it was 1.8?

The experience at the Fairgrounds was a little chaotic. It felt like nobody really knew what they were doing. I think our group worked out okay, but the time leading up to the start of the run could have been better organized.

Some how I ended up at the Fairgrounds instead of Lincoln Park and missed all of my friends, no biggie tho, I'll be at the park next week.
The Fairground group was a bit in disarray but not horrible.

I could see how it might be 1.8 (pending on tangents and turning into the shelter lot/finish line. I only took into account the inner loop.

Groups/pace adjustments are expected throughout Abe's as it usally takes a week or two to find your correct group/pace. Talk to your leaders on Monday and they will assist you in deciding what group would benefit your needs. Usually, runners will start by moving up to the group ahead of them.

Can you post which groups will be moving back to the fairgrounds starting next week so we all know where to meet?

I am just a disappointment with the Abe running group. First of all there were way more walkers than runners. Secondly, I don’t think people know how to judge themselves i.e. if they are fast or slow. So I think they should have started all runners out at the fairgrounds and did the timing, which would eliminate some of the fast people being at the park and the slow people being at the fairgrounds. My group was supposed to be one of the faster groups and the individuals run about a 12:00 to 13:00 minute mile. Additionally, we only have 4 people in our group when other groups have 10 to 15. Needless to say it was a cluster f%#. I am just not happy about that. Oh and they got started 35 minutes late, I think they need to be more mindful of others and their schedule. Arrg, see what happens when you try to volunteer.

The directors are still working on next weeks plan regarding which groups are moving to the fairgrounds. Hope to have info posted soon.

I know the first night seems to be a bit confusing but it really does work. I was in your shoes 3 years ago and felt the same way. However, by week 3 everyone was were they were supposed to be and things were running smooth. I could not have run Abe's Amble without the Army and support of my leaders. Give the leaders a chance to get everyone were they need to be.

It was quite disorganized, but I am still looking forward to it and hoping to improve my running and enjoy it more!

Anonymous above-Were you at the fairgrounds or Lincoln park?

To the person who said "My group was supposed to be one of the faster groups and the individuals run about a 12:00 to 13:00 minute mile. Additionally, we only have 4 people in our group when other groups have 10 to 15. Needless to say it was a cluster f%#. I am just not happy about that."

I hope you know that two of your runners are very new to running and I hope your comment doesn't make them want to stop. I have run with them before and while they might not be the fastest group out there I encouraged them to come to the fairgrounds instead of the park, because I knew they were capable of running the mileage.

I thought being a leader was to encourage others to run and teach them what you know. I did not think that Monday was a day of training for you but instead a day that you were volunteering to teach others. Maybe I was wrong. I hope you don't leave your group leaderless.

I think it was a little crazy, however, with 500+ runners that is expected the first night. I appreciate the time that others have put into this. If not for Abe's Army last year I would not be running again. Thanks guys.

Per instructions, I checked my label on the log book. The DOB is incorrect. Could you advise who I should contact to get this corrected. Thanks.

This is my 1st time in Abe's Army and I'm very excited about it! Yes, Monday night was a bit chaotic - but how can it not be with that many people! I am eager to begin running with my group! EVERYONE I've met through the Army has been super encouraging and helpful! Thanks so much to everyone!!

I had been waiting on one of the leaders to email everyone (so that we would have each others email addresses) to meet for a run tonight. I was in the blue #2 group. Maybe the information is posted somewhere else and I don't know where to look, so if someone could assist me I would appreciate it. The craziness and the crowd Monday didn't bother me at all. I have something more important to focus on (like training to complete the 10K to let anyting interfere with the run). I hope that the leaders stay positive and the recruits stay motivated. >>>>>>Stepping down now!!!1

Thank you to everyone who has worked hard and volunteered their free time to help me and about 500 others to start down the path to achieving our training goals! You and your efforts are greatly appreciated!

We are trying to move more runners to the fairgrounds this week, so watch the blog/website for that information soon.

For those that will be meeting at the fairgrounds this Monday and you could not make last Monday, if you could come early this Monday by 5:30p.m. and I will try to find an appropriate group.

There will be some who will need to move to different groups, let your leaders know, and they should be able to find the next group for you.

Please be patient and show up Mondays and do your other training/running and you will have great success. I "guarantee" you will be proud crossing that finish line after your 10K.

I was a fat frustrated confused couch potato just 3 years ago. The leaders in my group took me and 8 other women/men just like me and helped us, again HELPED us achieve the goal of completing ABE's Amble. I did what was suggested in the training book(this year's is even better, thank you)and I finished the race. Did I win my age group?? HECK NO! Did I have a personal best??? You BET because I NEVER EVER EVER walked, ran, crawled or skipped 6.2 miles. The volunteers for Abe's Army were not then nor now my personal trainer. They don't get paid. They put in a tremendous amount of time to do this. None of the volunteers are trained to handle large numbers of untrained person's so let's give em a break and thank them for getting us up off our bumms and out the door. Follow the book and ask for help, that's the hard part. NONE of us learned a skill the first day or week or month we practiced. I challenge anyone to tell me they became a pianist the first hour they sat at the keys. There's a choice here to make...either I use any excuse to quit or I trust the runner's who have done this, be patient with them and me and achieve this awesome challenging goal. IT'S THAT SIMPLE.
THANK YOU TO ALL THE LEADERS WHO HAVE HELPED ME KNOW I CAN DO ANYTHING I PUT MY MIND TO!!!

Bobbie Sue,well said.

Everyone, this program main focus is to get you in the mindset to complete a goal. Will it be easy, no it wont. But if you honestly follow the program and commit to your weekly meetings, you WILL complete your goal. There will be hiccups on the way, but that is okay. Just jump back on track. Your leaders will always be there for you. Take advantage of their knowledge but get to know your fellow recruits. You never know that person will be your lifelong running buddy.

Have fun and enjoy your time. A lot of friendships have been formed by joining Abes Army. You wont find a better running community, that is a fact.

My only regret about this years Abes Army Program is that I am not a leader due to getting married soon. But next year, Ill be back.

Miss you all! WhoWha!
