Each participant has paid a fee for Abe's Army - a 12 week training program design to help you reach the finish line of your first 10K or improve upon their running skills in a a fun and encouraging environment. While many runners, include myself, love to use an mp3 player on the run, please realize that this is a training environment and the runs scheduled for Monday evenings are designed to learn from one another - something that is difficult to do with headphones. Music is a powerful motivator in running - I have songs that increase my tempo, slow me down, or just plain distract me - depending on conditions. Studies point to the effectiveness of music as a tool for running.
However, the Abe's Army policy regarding the use of headphones is necessary for all participants to get the most out of their training - and to allow the volunteers to lead in the safest and most effective way possible. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. Let the power of the group guide your Monday evening Abe's Army training runs.
