The count-down is here!!

It's close!! You're going to get so excited Sunday morning and it's going to be FUN!! Here's a few tips to make your race a little easier:

Arrive at the fairgrounds well before the race (7:30 A.M.) Enter through gate #8 which is on North Fifth on the west side of the fairgrounds. There should be someone there to direct you to parking. (Remember, if you leave after the race, get your hand stamped so that you can return. You'll have to pay to park if you leave and go back, however.)

Try to pick your packet up on Saturday, from 12:00-5:00 at Athleticare. (Next to FitClub South on South Sixth Street) If you can't get there on Saturday you can have someone pick your packet up for you. It can be picked up on Sunday morning but it really gets hectic on race day. You'll get your shirt, bib, chip, etc. in your packet. Remember to pin your bib (number) to the front of your clothing. (Don't pin the bottom/tag) Chips are a small computer chip that attaches to your shoe. It's specifically set up with your information and will record your time and score the race. Be sure to return your chip after the race.

Position yourself according to your pace. The fastest runners should be in front (6 minute mile or so) and walkers should be the last. Run/walkers would be in front of the walkers, and straight runners in front of them. You get the picture.

Start out with your pace. Don't get drug along. The pack may be moving much faster than your pace and you'll just automatically move with the pack. Be careful. You can use up all you have the first two miles if you go out too fast.

If you have to stop for any reason, move to one side or the other. NEVER stop in the middle - you might cause an accident.

Remember, the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. You don't have to follow the curves of the roads.

Try to stick around afterwards. You have a special award coming. You've earned it.

I'm excited - see you Sunday. I'll be at the finish line cheering for everyone of you. Have fun and have a good race.
