Congratulations to all that finished the 5K/15K Shoreline Classic. What a perfect day! The course was great. Gotta love rolling hills. Everything seemed to run very smoothly. The race started on time. The course was well marked, well-staffed (times were called at every mile), and they had plenty of water stops. I can't recall ever seeing so many policemen out on a course directing traffic. Hats off to Bruce Bennett and the Decatur Running Club.
Side-note~I also saw more Springfield runners at this race then at some of our in-town Springfield races.
So lets hear how you did...
What did you think?
Who ran their first 15K today?
Now that you did 9.3 miles, it only makes sense to do an additional .7 and tackle Frostbite.
Reminder~Frost Toes will be starting on October 4th with the Heroes Run for Hope 5 miler. For all the latest news, check out the information at http://frost-toes.blogspot.com/.

I thought the shoreline 5K was great! I was surprised the course did have some sloping hills!! The race was very organized. I think it would be nice if Abe's Amble was able to have a post party like the shoreline classic. Just a thought. For people who run 6.2 miles, a little nutrients are needed!
This was my second year at the Shoreline and I had a great time even if I didn't run as fast a time as I wanted. I did come out with a nice age group award, the race shirts were cool and I made out like a bandit at the Often Running discount sale.
The best part of the day was running Mara K. into the finish and hearing her name announced for second in her age group at the awards ceremony right after she said, "I didn't win anything".
I was a first timer to the 15k and was very happy with my time despite being initially intimidated by the sloping hills.
As a back of the pack person, I thought there could have been a few more signs along the route but the cops were helpful. I do like our course marshalls better, a little more encouraging with racket and noise.. As a back of the packer, the golf cart was a little intimidating for some to be riding your butt the whole time. I must say the SRRC folk look out for the later folks and never make anyone feel like the were left behind. Overall will look forward to the frosty toes as a first timer! Hoping to win an award by default and not my time.... Triple crown 2 jewels down, one to go.
I ran the Shoreline yesterday for the first time and it was also my first 15K. I'm glad I did it and hope to do the Frostbite! Thanks to the SRRC and Abe's Army for the encouragement!
The shoreline was my first 15K and the longest race for me to date. I don't know what I thought I was doing! Especially after the hill between mi 4-5. Whoa!! I don't think I have ever run a race where I could not find a flat area to run. The constant slopes were a killer! I was extremely glad to get to mi 7 where the road was flat! Having said that, I felt that the race was very well organinzed and set-up. The DJ with the music every so often really kept me going!!
I hope to be back next year and will definately know what to expect when they say "Rolling Hills"!

As a newbie graduate of Abe's Army, I recruited (Army joke) my Decatur sis and we did the 5K. It was her first race ever and she's hooked. We had a great time but the hills killed us !! Who thinks of central Illinois as mountainous !!!
I am a first time Abe's Army graduate and I am so greatful that I had my start with Abe's. I thought the Shoreline was brutal! The sloping roads were killers! I also feel like I am spoiled because at one water stop, I had to wait for my water to be poured!I don't like to be negative but Abe's was much better organized.
Thanks to all from Advanced Abe's (and Abe's Army) for making the trip to Decatur. The Triple Crown is a fantastic idea and I hope it continues in 2009. The turnout from Springfield was AWESOME! Next year we will explore offering bus availability to help offset the cost of gas.
I really appreciate all of the feedback since both the positive and constructive comments help us to improve our race.
See you all next year!
