Hi Linda - I'm sorry that registration closed before you and your husband had a chance to sign up. If you can send me an email, I will pass your request along to Jan Wilson.
I participated in Abe's Army last year and had a blast! I let time get away from me and when I went to register, I noticed it was closed. Is there any way that I could be put on a waiting list?
Me again! I just registered to be a platoon leader and plan to be at Tuesday's meeting. My registration went through, so I am hopeful that it wasn't a fluke! Next year I'll pay more attention to the time!! See you all on Tuesday!
Hi! I too loved Abe's Army last year & made sure I signed up in timethis year...but...just found out all of my son's games are on Tuesday evenings. I was wondering how you are handling vacancies & if you could allow someone to fill your spot if they reimbursed the registration fee. Just let me know! S. Perry
If you would like a reimbursement, send me an email and I will get your info to the administrator. I believe he is able to simply cancel the Active.com charge.
I have to say, that cutting off the registration kinda stinks. There are a lot of people that will drop out and the registration is wasted. It would have been great to offer reimbursement and fill them as you go. I am rather disappointed because 5 people from my running group aren't able to participate.
To anonymous, thanks for your post. It is true that people drop out and their registration is wasted and unfortunately, some people who wanted to register have not been able to. Abe's Army has grown quite a bit and since we cannot utilize both Lincoln Park and the Fairgrounds as meeting places this year, the decision had to be made to put a cap on registration.
Jan is maintaining a waiting list, so hopefully your friends are on the list. Reimbursement is being offered in some instances.
Last year, some of the groups met at the Fairgrounds and other groups met at Lincoln Park. This year, all groups will meet at the same place, which will be the fairgrounds. Exceptions to this will be the weeks of the High School Rodeo and the State Fair. I think that there will be more information on this change at packet pickup.
As a new runner and Abe's Army participant last year, I have been looking forward to serving as a leader this year and, hopefully passing on my enthusiasm for running as I recently completed the LM Half Marathon. However, I was a little concerned about our initial starting run of 4 miles with the goal of working up to 8. As a new runner last year, I remember getting past the 1 and 2 mile humps in my training and by the time race day came, I had run the course twice and beat my time goal. It was a great schedule and great group. I think that if I had been instructed to run 4 miles the 1st day, I would have been very intimidated and may have considered dropping down to a slower group or not coming back at all. I know that we are supposed to follow the training log, but I am concerned about injuries and about novice runners that will not be able to begin running at this regimen. I want people to be excited, not scared.
I also agree with this comment that 4 miles is an outrageous amount of miles to start with. I remember when we showed up and ran a mile the first night just to record our mile time. Then we were split into small groups depending on if a person walked, walked/ ran or ran the whole mile. I have a few friends that I talked into joining us this year. I am afraid they will come the first night but will not return if we expect them to run 4 miles. I hope this is just a tentative schedule for the advanced runners and a less intimidating schedule will be available for the newby's.

Anne,
Please explain what you mean by:
"we cannot utilize both Lincoln Park and the Fairgrounds as meeting places this year"
thanks
