Info for Abe's Army Platoon Leaders!!!

Abe's Army begins Tuesday, May 30 and we are well on our way to having another great program for folks looking to train for Abe's Amble 10 kilometer race.

If you have registered to be a Platoon (group) Leader, here is what you need to know:

The Platoon Leader orientation is set for Tuesday, May 16, 5:45 p.m. at Athleticare, 3631 S. 6th Street in Springfield (next to FitClub South).

If you are registered as a Platoon Leader, or would like to be a Platoon Leader, it is recommended that you attend the orientation. This is a great opportunity for you to know what you will be doing as a Platoon Leader. We'll have Platoon Leader shirts, Platoon Leader manuals, and lots of good information that will keep your "recruits" running all summer long!!!! An optional, abreviated CPR course will be available following orientation for any Platoon Leaders who are interested.

If you are a Platoon Leader and need more information, please contact Jan Wilson at twolazybums@sbcglobal.net

We'll see you on the 16th and thanks for volunteering as a Platoon Leader.

I'm looking forward to leading a platoon in Abe's Army. If it hadn't been for my group leaders last year--Tim, Wendy, and Diedre--I doubt that I would have finished Abe's Amble.

Those wacky runners were also part of the Half Wits, the group I hold responsible for my ability to finish the Lincoln Memorial half marathon in April.

So who knows? Maybe someone will credit me with their ability to do more than they could before. If that happens, it's all worth it!

At the Indy Mini, my platoon leaders Connie and Linda presented Helen, Nancy, and me with silver "success" necklaces for completion of the 1/2 marathon which they considered to be our graduation. We are no longer rookies and the first year was a wild ride thanks to them. For their encouragement and support, smiles and hugs, and for instilling in us the confidence to go the distance despite the nagging injuries and doubts in ourselves, we all take on the challenge to be leaders in their honor. For teaching all of us what "real runners" have in their hearts - thanks ladies! Hopefully those lessons will get passed on to others.

Oh, and Barry - you rock! For sticking with it and coming back for more punishment week after week - you're an inspiration! Looking forward to working with you!
